Moving to Rochester NY???

I am looking at moving to Rochester, NY from Florida, sometime next spring (can't make myself move in the winter!)

Can anyone help me with resources for what I will need to become recertified for NY state, what the ordinances are in Rochester etc?

I realize that I will probably have to go back to school, FL is 500 hours, NY is 1200... but I'm not sure what type of credit they give for already licensed therapists...

Any help would be appreciated, I'm a little overwhelmed with the prospect of moving across the country. We have another home based business we're moving too, so this is going to be interesting.

You will need 1000 hours for NY. The Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage is in Rochester, I have met up with other therapists that have come from there, so you should be ok. It is a 7 hour drive from me, so I am not much more help. You will just need to have them review your transcript and take the remaining courseload. If you do it full time you it should take you about 6 months. Then there is the dreded exam that is given in either Jan. or Aug. and a 6-8 week wait post exam.

This is a little daunting!!! From what I read it seemed that NY had a different test than the national. I have 567 formal hours, not including the CEUs I have taken since graduating.

What is the test like? Is there a hands on section?

There is no hands on section, but the written is 140 questions of pure hell. :twisted: It was hard. I can say that, having just took it in August. But not impossible. There are some good schools out the Rochester way (I went to school in Albany).
