Could someone explain the pricing to me at MP'S (like Relax, Idem, HLH or any of them) I've only have been to New Fantasy a few years ago so I know how they work. I see alot of you go to Relax and say you only pay-9000-14000 colons. Thats not very much for the girl if that price covers the room charge. Do most of the girls expect a tip from you.

There are many posts here about the prices at each MP, but to give yo a little idea of the current prices:
HLH is $46 per hour for CRT VIPs
New Fantasy is c27000/hr and c15000/ 1/2 hour for gringos -c15000 and c10000 for Ticos

I think these are current for these two MPs.

Relax: c18000 and c12000 for gringos and c15000 and c10000 for Ticos
Idem: c35000 and c40000 depending on the room
la Mansion: c14000 and c10000

Most of the others are c14000 -c16000 per hour and c10000-c12000 for 1/2 hr.

The really low rent ones (on 6th st.) are around c6000-c8000 for 1/2 hr.

There are over 40 MPs just in the centra metropolitan SJ area. All prices include the room and the chica.

And what was your excuse before he raised the price for Gringos about 3 months ago??? :roll: :wink:

Actually when the place first opened the price was c15000 and at that time that was $30. This price increase at todays exchange rate is about $31.50. That is a 5% increase in 2 years while inflation here has been 15% each year. Also he has added the downstairs area, doubling his overhead. He also assured me that very shortly the price would be the same for Ticos (I actually argued for 30 minutes with him about having a double pricing. Most of you know that i am very opposed to that). He explained that he wanted to hold the price for Ticos till after Xmas.

BB, Your information on Chicas is always on the money but your economic stats are not accurate...the inflation rate for Costa Rica in 08 was 13.9 percent however mainly do to lower oil prices the inflation rate was; "Costa Rica ended 2009 with an inflation rate of 4.5 per cent, the lowest of the last 10 years."

Lower oil prices may have kept the inflation rate down but ALL other consumer goods went up much more. And what the CR government says and what it actually is is quite often two totally different things. I will quarrentee you that the cost of items I use and buy on a regular bases went up a lot more than even 15% which by the way is the figure I have heard several times on the local TV (ch 6 and 7). Even if your figures are correct that is a total of 18.4 % which is a hell of a lot more than the 1.5% Relax raised their prices. Not necessarily defending them, just trying to explain why they raised the price and that it is really nor very much of an increase compared to inflation. Hell the taxi rate has gone up twice in about 6 months and the last increase amounted to a 25% increase.

Just in the past 11 months I have been here I've noticed the things I use most on a day to day basis have gone up quite a bit. Taxi especially.. I used to be able to get to San Pedro for 900 colones now it costs 1600 and this is all in under 1 year

Condoms: I buy 500 at a time from a company in the states for about 12.5 cents each :wink: 8)
Mps: as explaned 1.5% increase in 2 years at my favorate MP, my second choise MP (la Mansion) just went up about 15% to c10000 and c14000 : :evil: :wink: First price increase in 6 years :!:
Chicas; still only have paid over $50 once in 15 years in CR, and still have chicas visit my house for c15000 plus taxi (OH yeah, the damn taxi went up 25% :evil: : :
alcohol: Any one who knows me knows I drank so little that any price increase there would not be noticeable--actually my alcohol of choise, Flor de Cana 7 year, I buy in Nicaragua for $6.25. 3 years ago it was $6.00 :twisted: :wink:

Now my food bill has gone up at least 40-50 % in the 3 and 1/2 years I have lived her : :evil: ; my electric bill has gone from about c20000 to c51000 this last month for almost the exact same usage; Bus from here to Granada; from $26 to $50 in 2 years :evil: : local bus from San Pedro to the Gulch area; from c135 to c200; and as stated, same trip in a taxi from around c1200 to c1800+ : :evil: And all these items are things that the MP owners and the working chicas also have to pay for! and ARE included in the inflation index! : :evil: :?

Idem's prices in November were 36,000 colones for the downstairs rooms and 31,000 for those upstairs. Does anyone know for sure if they have raised their rates to the levels BangBang quoted? He is an excellent source of info on virtually every MP in town EXCEPT Idem!

Jetsetter, you are correct on all counts! I tryed to do the conversion in my head and miss calculated. c31000 and c36000 are correct. ANd NO, IDEM is not my "cup of tea"; too high priced in comparision, do not like the chicas (too much like DR chicas in attitude and service), and dranks are too high. This is JMHO!!!

I don't like dual pricing, whether it be at NF or Relax.

IMO, the inflation justification only seems to hold water if it is applied to Ticos and Gringos equally. The Costa Rica government annually sets the percentage for wage increases for virtually all types of employment; and, if I'm not mistaken, in recent years, it has almost always been at, or near, the inflation rate. Ticos should be just as capable of absorbing the increase at Relax as, for example, U.S. pensionados, who probably are receiving smaller annual cost of living increases. Particularly now that the exchange rate has remained pretty much stable for the last year.

At the same time, if your going to base dual pricing on macro-economic conditions, what's wrong with NF arguing that they should charge Gringos even four times as much as Ticos since our GDP per capita is that much greater than theirs? :roll: :roll:

Then there's the "impuestos por propina" policy used by some at HLH. Don't know what to say about that, except that it is one of the reasons that I only go there once in a blue moon.

It seems that there are definitely some advantages to the one on one open market negotiations of SL/HDR/KL. :wink: :wink:
