Mrs Gudness and her daughter Marcy

Some knowledge of the Bible is needed for this one!

Little Johnnie has just started school and his mother walks him and his little friend Robert there every day. Now, Johnnie is getting rather embarrassed about his mother tagging along, especially since he's got Robert, so he tells his mother that in future, he and Robert want to walk to school on their own.

Well, his mother tells her next door neighbour, Shirley Gudness, saying that she wants Johnnie to have his independence, but she is concerned about the boys' safety. So Shirley says "Oh, I take Marcy for a walk every day, I'll just stay behind the boys and keep an eye on them."

It doesn't work however, because the boys notice that whenever they go to school, Mrs Gudness and Marcy are shadowing them, just down the road. Robert says to Johnnie "When's that woman going to stop trailing us?"

"Never" says Johnnie. "What do you mean never?" "Well, every night I have to read the 23rd Psalm before I go to bed and it says there that Shirley Gudness and Marcy will follow me all the days of my life."
