I thought it'd be interesting to give this its own forum.Mudras are gestures of power, yoga done with the hands. They can be protective, meditative, reflective and powerful.I am in the process of setting up a photo shoot to get some great quality shots of these hand gestures for decorating my massage room.I would love any of your creative input on this, and I'll share the results via a webpage or some other method when we're done. I'm not doing the project to turn over a dime. It would be a shame if others are interested too, and I didn't share.So, here's what I'm thinking:I'm gathering two or three of my pals to be my models. We'll decorate one set of hands with a washable version of Mendhi (henna painting), done with markers in a mahogany tone, etc. (I love doing henna work too... another topic for another time). Another set of hands can be adorned with things like pearls or jewlery, etc. One last set (or the same) sans jewlery. I am trying to think of ideas now for backdrops (and 'scrims'... foreground sheers, etc) to make the shots compelling. One idea is to use interesting fabric, of course. Another to cast shadows (like bamboo leaves, etc) over the hands. Positioning the hands behind some sheer fabric would be another option. I like bamboo & rattan alot, so I thought that might be a wonderful backdrop (maybe with the shadows cast over that set of mudras).Does anyone else's imagination want to get involved?I would welcome all ideas, cautionary comments, or participation.  Thanks!Jill/Sagetherapist

This sounds fantastic. I would be interested in such images.Sounds like you have some experience with this kind of project!Rich rich color is at the forefront of my mind. Deep burgundies, rich greens, mostly warm or earthy, but that forest green is in there too. The images I see have pretty monochromatic backgrounds... the extra interest is more textural. This sounds compatible with what you've described. Hope this helps!

thanks, EMI agree with the monochromatic schemes.Am getting this up & running with the ideas after this weekend.My sister suggested (very practical, elementary school teacher) that I use eyeliner to draw my Mendhi designs on the hands... that way they are very "re-doable", and the same hands could pose for more photos, etc. I thought that was great.Jill/Sagetherapist

ok if this is the hand gesture im thinking of... maby a see speak or hear no evil  one person hans in fornt of their mouth  then over eyes and thern one hand next to each ear i see people sitting cross legged and done in B&W and that is if this is the hand gesture i am thinking of

Sage/JillWe have more in common with every post! Mudras have been on my mind. I'll be excited to see how this turns out. I could see you making a book out of this. What a great coffee table (or waiting room) book for people (clients) to browse through. A page with a picture and the opposing one with a description of the mudra...the meaning or intention behind using it.Hopefully we can meet up next week!

Will you post the pictures somewhere when you're finished and give us a link?The whole idea sounds wonderful!  If there were a coffee table book, I'd treasure it...   I have a scrapbook of hands that I cut out of magazines and things.  They're mostly farmer's hands or hard working hands.  I guess I'm not alone!If you get some great shots, consider entering in your county fair.  I was blown away by the photography exibit at our fair this year, but I was a bit disappointed because there weren't any pictures of hands.Katykangaroo
