muscle stripping neck massage causing pain and soreness?

is muscle stripping suppose to be painfull. i went to physical therapy and what she did is like muscle stripping but she was using a lot of pressure even after i said ouch. she said well you are so tight...

can the strping of scalene muscle 9side of neck ) injure the arteries and cause a problem. does that massage go so deep that it can do that.

24 hrs later both sides of neck are sore and hurt

No, it rather defeats the point of the exercise. All types of Soft Tissue treatment are intended to reduce tension and restore muscle function. Sometimes a small amount of pain is tolerable in order to get into the muscle (this type of work interferes with the neural feedback loop that causes muscle tightness and cramp) However, pain tends to cause the muscle to tighten as a damage response. Pain 24hrs after treatment is unusual. It is very unlikely that any arteries would have been damaged while working on the scalenes. There are some big vessels in the area and had they been damaged, you would have known about that straight away.
Try alternating hot and cold packs (towels, hot water bottles or gel packs) localised to the scalenes or anything else painful, one minute cold three minutes hot, three or four times as required. This is a handy first aid procedure but the muscles will need time to recover.
Perhaps this particular practitioner is not for you. it might be an idea to seek another professional, a physical therapist with a wider repertoire or an osteopath or chiropractor
