My 7 year old poodle/shiatsu is scared after 2:30pm and hides in our bedroom....

...He trembles and won't come? back into the living room with us. He loves all people and most other dogs. About 2 years ago the fireworks in the town we live in started setting them off any time of day and night and since then
Yogi has become worse even though the fireworks is under controll now. He is now scared of wind
Thunder and car rides. We have had him since he was a puppy and have spoiled him as we have any other dog we have had in the past. We don't know what to do to help him. Please Help!

I hate to sound like a commercial.. but have you heard of Thundershirts? They help the dog stay calm by "hugging" the dog. I personally don't have one, but I will soon since I've heard from my friends that they work well.

Shiatsu is a form of massage, though that might help your Shih Tzu mix relax. There is a way to wrap an ace bandage around the dog in a figure-eight configuration that works the same way a Thundershirt does. It was once illustrated in Whole Dog Journal. There are various Bach Flower Remedies, like Aspen and Rescue Remedy, that help some dogs. Your vet can prescribe anti-anxiety medication which the dog can usually be weaned off of over time. Whenever a fear-inducing situation happens, try to counteract it by playing with him or doing some obedience commands with tasty food rewards, so he makes positive associations. .

Have you tries to not acknowledge the behavior? Dont let him run and hide, and let him know that things are okay, but dont baby them...they are dogs not people...and his behavior has escalated due to the over conscious owner... no offense intended.. and dont keep them from those things.. that tells them they have a reason to be afraid.

Thats very scary and strange. I hope your dog is ok all i can say is take that to a vet right away thats not a good sign. No one from yahoo answers can tell you! See a vet now
