Since you have been doing a lot heavy lifting recently, I would assume you definitely have some overworked muscles which are probably spasming and creating a lot of discomfort! However, you may also have put a vertebrae or two out of place also when straining. I would recommend that you see your Dr since it has been a few days and you are unable to get relief. Most likely they will offer you muscle relaxers, but you could also request a prescribed chiropractic or massage visit instead (depending on your health insurance coverage). This pain could also be a referred symptom of a more serious underlying issue, such as a hernia, nerve damage, etc, so again, I urge you to see your Dr. I would not recommend any massage until the pain decreases (maybe 24-48 Hours) and definitely no massage if you take any pain medication (because you won't be able to judge the pressure being used appropriately! and we don't want to make your neck hurt more!) Try some gentle stretching today, and use ice packs and heat packs for on the spot relief. (Easy ice pack - ice cubs, plastic bag, wrapped in a towel. Do not put ice directly on skin!) (For heat you can use an electric blanket, microwaveable heated pillows, or a warm bath)
