Need advice

Hi there,

Not sure if i am right here but in one of my papers i am being asked to give at least 4 ways in which TENS differs from electro-acupuncture?

I am aware that The main difference is that electroacupuncture uses acupuncture needles as the electrodes instead of electrode pads which are used with the TENS units.

TENS stimulates sensory nerves to block pain signals, stimulate endorphin production to help normalize sympathetic function.

Electro-Acupuncture stimulation differs from TENS because TENS uses a higher voltage cutaneous stimulation.

I am unsure wither i have given the right ones here and i am still one short, anyone any suggestions as to wither there are better answers this damn lesson is killing me *sob

(electro)acupuncutre does aim to rebalance energy in a meridian. TENS probably does not aim at that, just get the pain away?...

I could be wrong, but I think they use different frequencies and wave forms, and some electro-acupuncture devices have variable wave forms & frequencies.

You could, of course also say that TENS gives only symptomatic relief, whilst E-A is attempting to treat the underlying bio-energetic discrepencies.

Oh, and can hurt like hell, if you're not careful! []

Hi there and thanks muchly for the replies it was appreciated I put in the difference in use and how to use the two machines and what type of response they trigger ect and another 2 bits abuot endorpins ect and how tens is portable also I know that some electro-acupuncture are designed not to use needles now but i think i was to highlight how it used to be kinda thing

Electro-Acupuncture stimulation differs from TENS because TENS uses a higher voltage cutaneous stimulation. So electro-acupuncture works well with low frequency at high intensity and TENS works well at high frequency at low intensity.
