Need help with dishonest owner

Here's my dilllema. I went for a 90 minute combo veggie foot and body massage at a place I had not been to in Markham. I was very pleased with the quality of the massage that I left a good tip, against my better judgement, with the owner at the reception. Usually I tip directly to the girl.

I asked the girl today and she said she got nothing given to her.

My question is what ethical action do I take? If I confront him she may loose her job. If I don't, exploiting assholes prevail.

I like how you said "him" as the owner. I'd leave it alone, unless you want to have him say he would never do that and the girl is lying. etc

I always pay the tip and the room fees to the lady directly.

Approach him in a non-confrontational manner or else you'll risk making things worse for everyone.

Say something like "Hey, I'm embarrassed to even bring this up but is it possible that you may have forgotten to...blah blah blah". Give him an excuse to save face.

If he denies it, just let it go. He'll know that both you and the MPA know and that's embarrassing enough for him.

I almost always tip directly in room but on this occasion i forget to have enough smaller bills with me. I asked at reception, after i paid, to see the girl and give her tip, but, he said she is busy and I'll give it to her.

I agree with mostly what was said so far. It was a mistake that you gave the tip to the owner. But bringing it up will just make a bad thing worse. If ever you forget to tip someone, never give it to someone else. Just tip her more next time you see her, and explain to her that you forgot last time.

You have 2 options:

1) Give her the money directly and the 2 of you remain silent.
2) Dont give her the money for the appt that already happend, but give her a tip next time

I'm with the majority here.
Don't do anything to jeopardize the girl's position there.
Just go back for another visit, be sure to request her, and tip her directly.
At these places, never tip the owner or receptionist. You never know if the owner/receptionist might be on bad good terms with the attendant, and may decide to pocket the tip.

Since someone resurrected this older thread, thought I'd chime in.

I agree with hangul99, tell us which spa it was so everyone can be extra careful with how they tip.

I've heard of other places where that happened.
I was even asked to do a "surprise shopper" test a few times at a couple of different places to see if the MPA I saw got the full tip I left.
On two occasions, at two different places, the girls didn't get the full tip I left.

When this has happened, I always made it up on the next visit. As others have suggested.
