Need Lots of Help

hello,
I need some help. I have been to this massage therapist twice. we live in a small town, and i know her very well. she does a GREAT job and i love getting them. but she has a feminine odor. it is a small room and the smell gets kind of intense. how can i tell her with out hurting her, or her thinking that i am a total jerk.

if you have any suggestions please let me know!?!?!?

without addressing her about this sensitive issue, you could
1. ask for an aromatherapy massage or
2. bring her a gift of aromatherapy candle to scent the room or
3. open a window/turn on a fan or
4. have your massage as a housecall.

if you are sure it is her, and not the previous client, and you attempt to address it; you may find things more awkward than ever.

I have been to a therapist once who had a "particular" odor. Some people do have "scents".

If it bothers you, and you are not able to relax during the massage, you are probably going to have to find a new therapist.

I would not suggest discussing this with the therapist, as you will probably only cause a rift between the two of you anyway, no matter how much you think you need to say something.

I have to admit, the way you have addressed the question here, does lead to the wonderment of the troll issue. But, I would guess if you are legit in asking this question, you would see that too, and not be offended by the above troll oil comment.

I have to agree with Texas-gal.

But if you really want to stick with this therapist, I would send her a little annonymous note. I know I am ultra paranoid about B/O issues because of the close contact that I have with my clients... but there are some mt's out there that are completely oblivious.

From you post, I would assume that this is a hygine issue.

Unfortunately, no matter how you approach the matter, you have the possiblity of offending the therapist.

I would first suggest another therapist.

If that is not possible as you are in a small town, and aromatherapy massage sounds like a good idea. Or book your appointment earlier in the day, which also might help.

I am very confused. i dont want to switch i really think that she is helping me. and maybe it is just the client before me that has an odor. please keep the tip flowing I really like the suggestions that i have recieved so far.

I don't think sending an anonymous note is a great idea...because it may eat away at you in the end, and be more hurtful to your massage therapist than you anticipate.

My suggestion is to find a more direct way that takes your actions and feelings into accountability, as well as hers. I'm surprised that this odor issue wasn't addressed for her in massage school, if it is indeed her. You don't have to come right out and say it is her because you're really not 100% sure that it is.

Maybe you can tell her you have allergies (or experiencing some new allergy/allergic reaction), and that there is an odor in the room that you are very sensitive to.
