need some circuit help....Newbie?

Hi, I have always wanted to make my own circuit boards with perf board and move away from breadboards...I really find those PCB in VCRs and various other electronics really cool but I can't find any information on how they work. For example, all I see on a PCB are lines...I can not tell where the positive or a negative of the wire is...its all 1 line...How does that work? I would like to know how to read the connections of the PCB as I am used to seeing wires from positive ends and negative ends going to places...
i have another question, what are those wires called in VCR, they are like groups of wires all connected in one piece with these white pins....For example I have 2 or 3 seperate wires but in a VCR you will never see this, they are something similar to assembly....All the wires are connected or attached sidebyside in to a row and at the tip have a serial thingy...what are they called...
I have made simple circuits but on breadboards so thats why I would like to try perf boards but dont know how to read them...like they have 1 line....where is the positive and where is the negative...

learn the electronics first and then breadboard it with perf boards.

After that there are professional tools. But for the hobbyiest this is the best start !
