Hi All,I am new to this chat. I just started building my biz and would like some help. Do I need a CPA, my company is a LLC.Do I need a lawyer?Whats better hire workers as employees or independent contractors?What is the average pay for employees and independent contractors if I decided to hire them, I live in NJ?Could I add new modelities to my business, although I did not go to school to get cert but I know how to perform it?Thanks for your answers and sorry about the long list of questions.

About performing modalities that you are not certified in.   If you choose to get certified by the state of NJ you would ONLY be able to use modalities you have been certified in.  There is a HUGE push on to have certification MANDATORY now.  If you are a member of AMTA or ABMP, I would encourage you to get active in finding out more about this and joining forces against having certification mandatory, or at least having some of the language changed before it is mandatory.  I don't know which school you went to, but SSMT is organizing its alumni to put their 2 cents in about this mandatory certification in NJ.If you're just starting out in the biz, are you ready to be taking on other people yet?  I'd be careful about this until we know where certification is going.  As for pay, I know what I feel like when people want to underpay me.  If I were taking on other people, I would want to be fair to them.  I believe it encourages loyalty and fairness throughout the relationship.

Do I need a CPA, my company is a LLC.

Do I need a lawyer?-- I assume you had either draw up your papers of incorporation?  I would at least get a consultation from them.

Whats better hire workers as employees or independent contractors?-- It depends on what you expect from them.  Are they expected to do ancillary duties when not massaging?  Do you set the terms on what they do, when they do it etc?  The IRS has many nice articles which define IC's vs. empoyees.

What is the average pay for employees and independent contractors if I decided to hire them, I live in NJ?

--The average ranges from 40-60% depending on what is provided to the MT.(linens, oils, marketing)

Could I add new modelities to my business, although I did not go to school to get cert but I know how to perform it? I believe the answer is no, you can only perform modalities in which you have been trained.

Do you need a CPA?

If you don't feel comfortable doing the work yourself, than hire a CPA.  Even if you do feel comfortable with your work, it doesn't hurt to have someone review your work.

generally, i say no.

but i think there are exceptions. i am not certified in aromatherapy, but i offer it. i am very aware of what EO's i offer, so not to cause harm. i.e. pregnancy, etc.

also, i was trained extensively for body services, such a seaweed and mud wraps, but i am not certified. it was part of a corporate spa training program. i still offer these services in my private practice.
