NEW ~ ? for any fusion failure help

I'm new here.

brief hx:

2001 Lami L4/5, S1
6mo post op reherniation
ESI's, EMG,
dx'd HNP L4/5, S1
2003 Fusion, L4/5, S1
PLIF
Some relief (x-rays showed fusion occuring)
9mo post op increase LBP
MRI, CT negative
2004 Started PM
ESI's. Bilateral total lumbar facet injections
pain worsening - no relief from injections
L3/4 now bulging, dx'd w/Fibro, Arachnoiditis, and spodylothesis L4/5

Now: PM referral to NS; NS suspects failed fusion
currently awaiting final surgical plan from NS
NS concerned facets are also involved.


My question:

Last month or so angry red blotchy area developing @ hardware site low back. Severely worsening by end of day.

* I asked NS what could be causing this, was told, "I have NO Idea"

now, low back area COVERED with bruises. a dozen or so area that are the size of a pea to a nickel.

I am at a loss as to what this could possibly be other than inflamation/irritation from instrumentation?

any insight would be appreciated!
