New Job - Chair work in a salon

I just meet and worked out an agreement with a local salon owner.  I live in a small, but loyal town.  We have decided to start out with me only giving chair massage 2 days a week to see if their is enough local interest.  She has an extra room, but it needs work in order to see clients.  If there is enough interest for table massage she said she would have no proplem fixing up the room.  Let me no if you guys think this is a good place to start for a MT that's only been out of school for less than a month.  I also work 3 days a week at the YMCA.

Is it a good place to start???  I guess the answer depends.  Is this somewhere you can see yourself working?  From my experience, chair massage will not bring in clients for table massage.  There is a MT who works in the salon where I get my haircut.  They never seem to have anyone in the chair...they are always sitting reading a book.  So my suggestion is to always look like your ready to work.  (though this may be tough if no one is wanting a massage-after a while I'd imagine I would want to sit and do nothing as well)  Don't get discouraged if it's not busy...just do something to get busy.  Take action.

Congrats! آ Sounds like a very nice opportunity for both of you. آ If you are looking for ways to encourage the table massage aspect of the business:

• Have your table rates established so when clients ask for more information you are ready and don't have to think about it.
• Have a simple brochure that discusses the advaneforum.xxxes and benefits of massage with your name and contact number on it and give one to everyone you do chair massage on.  (It is a good idea to have your contact number on these either in addition to or rather than the salon's)
• When you are finished with the chair massage, ask each client if they would be interested in table massage too, if they say yes, hand them a short form that asks for their contact information with a short statement that they have to check mark agreeing that they are interested in table massage -- have a fishbowl at the check-out counter where these can be placed. آ It is a great visual for both you and the owner to see who is actually interested in table massage.
• Consider offering an incredible package deal for the first ten clients who become table customers. آ (The ones who are really interested in becoming long term clients usually jump at these deals and are a great source of referrals and gift certificates.)
