New Job??

This is probably premature since I don't really have a lot of deatails but I am ready to BURST!I currently work at a day spa...I have a REALLY sweet deal--I only pay $5 per massge as "rent"...I have been quite blessed.However.....things are slow-they have been painfully slow since October. I have been making JUST what I need to to keep my head above water. I have been thinking about getting a 'real' job for several months but the thought of leaving massage makes me woozy.Last week I had another massage therapist on my table (who also happens to be a good friend) and she mentioned that the most popular chiropractor in town was looking for a therapist. I've made contact with them and she said she is VERY interested in talking with me--we've just been unable to connect yet!There are a lot of drawbacks--I would lose a lot of flexibility (I currently work Monday - Thursday and I am on call when I am 'working') and the pay would be considerably lower...aside from that I don't have really any details yet. But the prospect of making much more money exists....I need to be much busier. I know--the info I have is just enough to get my mind working overtime and make myself crazy! There are all sorts of issues with leaving my current job (I live in a painfully small town) but the allure of this is peaking my interest.Just needed to get it out or I think I was going to explode!! New Job??

Yay! I'm excited for you.I'm kinda wondering how the spa makes money with only $5/massage rent? How many therapists work there? Just doesn't seem like they'd be able to pay their rent either.

I really have no idea either...like I said, we do live in a very small town and rents are not very high. There are 2 massage therapists and 5 stylists (they also do the other spa services). The other girls pay booth rental--and I have no idea how much that is...Must be lucrative, though, we're staying in business!I talked w/ the chiro today...they will be interviewing in the next 2 weeks--not quite the done deal I had hoped for but at least it's something....More to come...

I'm not sure why you don't just stay where you are and try building your business.  You may be busier somewhere else but if you're not making a lot of money to make up for it, why switch.  I say look into some ways to build your business at the spa.  One trap you don't want to fall into is the "on-call" thing.  A lot of therapists don't want to be at work if there is no business but you can't build business if you're not at work.  Sometimes it's being available that connects you to regular clients and building your practice.  Just my thoughts....
