Good morning!
I am new and just joined in the hope that i can get some advice and feedback. It's regarding my (2nd prolasped disc L5 S1). I had an operation on L5 S1 13 years ago which was a wonderful success. I have now been told that another operaton is required on the same L5 S1 because of scar tissue impinging on the nerve, but they say that it may not be as successful as the first op. I don't know what to do?

Yes, scar tissue often causes problems. But usually, this occurs few months after the surtgery, not 13 years... This sounds strange. In big percentage of cases, removal of scar tissue and adhesions causes creation of NEW scar tissue and NEW adhesions.

The big questions is - how the doctor plans to remove this scar tissue? Does he intends to use anti-adhesions gel after the removal?

Ask him this questions.

Thanks, that is something that will be asked when I next see my neurosurgeon. I did see the results of the mri scan and there is a small prolaspe of the disc, but i didn't think that i would be ending up needing another op after 13years. ( I have been suffering since Jan2009)

Scar tissue does usually form immediately but then over the years it can accumulate more and more debris and sometimes osteophytes, bone spurs, will grow to try and secure the area more too. Do you know the reason why that disc went in the first place because sometimes if the cause is removed or improved with physio or muscle balance etc then a repeat can be avoided.
