Heh, I'm moving again! The school wasn't working well with me, so I'm not going to be working with them. I put in my two weeks' notice Tuesday, and by March 15 I will be in my new office at a salon. I made sure to give notice, found another therapist to take over my office (a female that REALLY wanted it), and gave a letter of resignation, outlining EXACTLY why I was leaving. The owner was fine with it, and was glad that I handled it in a professional manner. She just said that as far as clients that are seeing me right now go, she said I can call all the clients that ever came to see me there, just do so ethically. I told her I will only give them my business card with my contact information on it if they call back requesting me during the next couple of weeks, then it's up to them if they want to see me at my new office or continue going to the school. I also asked that she be ethical in telling clients that ask for me that I've moved, as some of my own clients that followed me to the school now have the school's number. Let's hope all goes well!

Good luck... you didn't need the stress that they gave you. ย But I wouldn't leave it up to them to forward your clients to you. ย Do you have their contact information? ย Because I would take it upon myself to let them know that I moved, just so they didn't have to track me down and risk the school stealing them or pissing them off... just make sure that the clients you came in with stay with you. ย

The owner of the school just made a plea to 'please let my clients know in an ethical way that I am leaving.' I am respecting that wish. The clients who call asking specifically for me (the ones that come in every other week or so) have my card with my cell number on it. However, if I saw the client only once at the school and it was due to their marketing, that's not my client, I just happened to take the appointment because they scheduled with me. I told her I will be ethical about leaving and contacting clients, but I also ask that they are ethical in that if a client calls asking for me, that the school tells them where I can be found. If I were to contact everyone I laid my hands on while at the school and told them I'm moving and here's my contact number, I feel that would be unethical on my part, and as a client I probably wouldn't appreciate it.I know that a few will follow me (most already said they would while asking 'when I'm leaving that dump'), and a few will stick with the school because that's where they're used to going. New Office
I got everything moved in this weekend, and I realized when I got everything in the room how much smaller the new office is. I've got just enough room to fit all my decor (I admit, I've got a lot of stuff) and my table. I may end up having to take out an accent table, even though I LOVE the table. It adds so much to the room. They are supposed to install a sink in my office for me, which would be great for cleaning off my stones when I'm finished, but I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to take ou tmy accent table. I moved from a really HUGE office, to one smaller (at the school), now to one even smaller. My friend, another MT in the same salon, has a bigger office, and pays the same amount I do. There IS another office next to mine that's empty, and is the same size as my friend's, but it's got the phone hub (those really big boxes that all the phone lines are set up through) and the circuit breaker box in. If a fuse goes out, they would have to go through that office to change it, so I really don't want that office.It seems that every time I move to a new office, it gets smaller and smaller, lol. I think I'll like it here, though I may have to sacrifice a few of my decorations.

I have an office in one town, and now would like to open another one on the other side of town. It's a good way to re-introduce myself to past clients (by letting them know about my new location) and if I can get into a chiro's office (on a part-time basis), it can also generate new clientele for me. My full-time/day job isn't a gaurantee (all jobs are temporary jobs, right?) and they don't appreciate their employees -- our new general manager decides he doesn't like certain people for no reason whatsoever and does what he can to oust them out of their job. I don't want to have to sit around and wait for him to start disliking me for no reason. So it would be great to really build up a clientele so I could switch to massage full-time...would love to move down closer to the water though. Can't believe I've only made it down to the coast once in the 5 years I moved to Texas ย :-/Regardless, it sounds like you're gonna have to make a sacrifice or two in exchange for getting a better environment in which to work. Taking the bad w/ the good...tit fo' tat....yen and yang...and so on and so on. ย

I got to work in my new office today! ย ;D I'm loving it. I thought I'd be a little cramped, but it's nothing I can't live with. It's a great environment, the people I work with are nice as can be, I work along side my best friend (another MT), and best of all I'm not on commission anymore! I had 3 appointments today, and have met so many people (the stylists/nail tech's clients) that are scheduling and/or getting to know me. I'd have to say that this is the first office I've been in that I have actually had a good feeling about. I'm actually excited about going to work! YAY!!!!
