PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — There’s a new on demand health service just for massages.
You name the time and place and a trained masseuse arrives to you in an hour.
This is already happening in New York, LA, and Chicago.
Now, the newest on demand massage service is expanding into Philly.
After a marathon day at work, Kory Aversa says his neck and shoulders ache.
Quick relief is now at his fingertips, with a phone app that lets him get a massage at home in an hour.
“It’s great,” Kory said. “It’s sort of like the Uber of massage.”
It’s called Soothe, an on demand massage service.
The service provides licensed, trained, vetted, massage therapists at the time and place you decide.
“It is spontaneous,” Melissa Solomonov said. “You might not know, at seven you’re leaving your job, and you never really thought you needed a massage.”
“You can book something right away and they can be out at your home, or your office, or your hotel, in as little as 60 minutes,” Melissa said.
Melissa is screening the therapists and looking to hire a lot quickly. She says there are many health benefits linked to massages.
“It takes away stress and anxiety,” Melissa said. “It also increases muscle flexibility, decreases tension, and soreness.”
The app allows you to choose the type of massage and the length, the minimum being 60 minutes for $99.
You can even choose the therapist’s gender.
“Living in the world that we live in and the way people are working, it’s something that’s really well needed,” Melissa said.
Kory, who lives in South Philly, says he especially likes the flexibility. They have evening hours lasting all the way until midnight.
“It’s my favorite thing right now,” Kory said.
Melissa says the Soothe therapists have 500 hours of training, in addition to a license and background check.
The service will be officially open for business next week.
