Hi,I have come out of lurking and joined up.  I must say how much I have enjoyed what I have read here. So much good info, lots of questions answered.  Ok, I start school in 19 days, Yes I am so excited!  ;D I have a couple questions I would like to throw out ...Did school change you/your lifestyle in anywayand I have this Kapit/Elson coloring book, Jeeze Louise man, LOL, I am wondering, if anyone else used this book, there are like a bigillion muscles and points of insertion, attachment!!!  I am overwhelmed, can ya tell? I suppose this is what the anatomy section of school is for!

Yes.  I got completely spoiled with having several massages per week during our class practice time!  As time wore on, those several massages per week just kept getting better and better.  I finished my classwork nine months ago; I'm still going through withdrawals.

yes, I used the book.  It's very good .  use it. learn it. color it.  the color actually helps you remember and refer back for study. good luckgwin

I used an anatomy coloring book too. I love to color so it was a fun thing for me. Most massage students are kinesthetic learners so getting the touch sense involved will often help. Did my training change my life in any way....YES!!! Before, I was working in a psych hospital and absolutely dreaded going to work. My massage training gave me a way to express my caregiver side in a much nicer way--it made me a more fullfilled person. I also learned to listen more and learned how to ask questions. I developed more confidence. I am more aware of how stress is affecting my body....and am making changes to correct that with proper eating, rest and exercise. Ok, so getting a little more personal...before massage training I was in counseling and clinically depressed. Now, I'm enjoying the ups and downs of life and truely love where I am today. Did my massage training do all that? no, but it sure did play a huge part.

I'm late with this post - but I'm gonna add it anyways - because I haven't seen this brought out in the other posts.  I've been in school (nights) since 9/15....Expect to be overwhelmed.  It's a LOT of work.  Overwhelmed is NORMAL.Drink gallons of water.  All the bodywork you're getting is gonna be flushing all manner of crapola into your system.And, yeah, use your coloring book!--jenna

Yes, I would say overwhelming is exactly what I have been feeling, although it is getting better, we are going into the 6th week I think.  As for the coloring book, it has been a tremendous help as well as a better anatomy book than the one we buy from school.  As for the water, I am adding more, thats all I drink when I am at school.  Its amazing the illness, headaches, stomach aches, etc. that have been going on since this started.  Tough as it is, I am having a blast!Thanks for all the tips

Helloo all. Let me just say that yes school can be overwhelming at times, but all in all, it is just what you make of it. I have been in school since 9/3 and am loving every minute of it. So far, it has changed my whole prespective on life in general and school has taught me how to notice the changes and things that are going on in my own body as well as others. Just make it fun and the parts that are overwhelming will seem very small compared to the big picture. ;D

8)Life is full of stress! It's all in the way you deal with it. Happiness is a choice! I started massage school 4 weeks ago with my youngest daughter, I work full time, have 4 grown kids, and am helping raise a grandson. Try to stay in the present as much as you can. Worry doesn't do anything but give you a headache, upset stomach or sleepless nights. so....if it isn't life threatening just put it out of your mind and focus. You can do it! 8) 8) 8)
