Hey all.I've not yet received a massage before, but I'm starting to want one.  The problem?  I'm 13.  I'm afraid I'm too young to do it.  I'm not sure.  So, I have a few questions.First of all, what is the procedure?  If anyone is willing enough to guide me step-by-step through the procedure of getting a massage and stuff, that would be awesome.  Basically, I just need to know what you do from the time you get there to the time you leave.  A detailed response would be great.Being only thirteen, I'm afraid I would be viewed differently in getting a massage compared to an adult.  I would want a regular massage like everyone else, but is that possible?  Or do massage therapists have to take a different path when massaging people my age?Does the opposite sex do the massage?  I'm a male, so would a female do it?How much on average would a 90-minute session cost for a person my age?What's the deal about getting nude?  Is it illegal for somebody my age to do that, and we have to keep on boxer shorts and whatnot?  Or can we get a regular one like adults do, with just the towel draped?What parts of the body will/can a massage therapist work on?  What can they not?---------Like I said, I'm new to this, and all information I could get would be greatly appreciated.  Also, even though it might sound weird, please don't take this as some teenage kid just goofing off.  I'm seriously wanting to know about this, and being treated like an adult would be great.  That might have came out wrong, but, you get the point... ?Thanks,- Chase

The therapist will bring you into the massage room and discuss with you the goals of your treatment.  Whether they are for relaxation, muscular tension, headaches, anxiety, ect.You will be given instructions on what you will need to do.  You may leave your underwear/boxers on or take them off.  You will be draped/covered the entire time.I therapist will leave the room and allow you to disrobe to your comfort level and then you will get on the massage table.  Once you are ready the therapist will begin the massage.  Some therapists will go over the areas that they will be massaging, some won't.  You can always ask.  Genitals will not be massaged.  If you have an area like glutes or stomach that you don't want massage, you can let the therapist know that.The therapist will use a lubricant like oil or cream, so types of massage require no lubricant at all.At the end of the massage the therapist will leave the room again and allow you to get dressed.You may be massaged by a male or a female.  Both will be able to do a good job.The average for a 90 minute massage in my area is $100.  Some discount the session for the length reducing the price to $95.I have worked on many younger clients and they all have enjoyed the experience.You will need parental permission and possibly have a parent in the room as others have stated. That is really the only difference.

Ditto what Masthera said.  I have had a handful of younger clients, and of course the children in my extended family all come to me for massage as well.  I've had clients as young as 1 month and as old as 83.I discovered the powerful effects of massage at 31... always wondered what my life would have been like had I discovered it at 15 or 16 instead!So I am a big believer in teens getting massage it can do so much to help with all the emotional turmoil and physical stresses a growing body goes through.(Word of advice... do not wear the backpack slung over just one shoulder...)One of my best clients at the salon I used to work at was an 11 year old girl whose parents were going through a divorce. Over the years she was my client there she really blossomed into an athletic and friendly young woman. Who expressed interest in going to MT school when she grew up.Anyway, congratulations on being an especially savvy young person Chase.

Chase...A few ideas to run past your parents.Do your research... show them that MT is effective, look up some articles about how helpful it can be to people. And if there is a specific reason such as back pain or depression... mention it to your parents... and that you'd like to try massage because you've read that it can sometimes help. If you Do Not have a health problem, definitely mention that you want to try it as Preventive Medicine.
