It occurs to me as I get ready for my first trip to Costa Rica and it's beautiful chicas, that there are still a number of questions in my mind.

This after spending nearly a week reading all of the posts in all of the forums and gathering enough information to start a Mongoring 101 course at some liberal college

OK here's some questions, the answers to which will be very helpful to all newbies.

1. What is the exact procedure used to select a chica at one of the places like ZB, KL, etc ? Do the chicas all sit in a row in chairs (as they do in Thailand) or do you view them behind a glass partition ? The selection process always seems a little awkward as you don't really have anything except a visual image to decide on. Does Wanda give valuable recommendations once she understands your needs and wants ?

2. Does the Hotel Presidente have a bar like the BM attached to it like the Del Rey ? Or just the morning meeting place, "News Cafe" ?

3. Where does one leave their "cash" when not registered at someplace like the Presidente when traveling outside the San Jose area. Will they let you keep an envelope in their hotel safe (not the room safe) while you are gone ? Same goes with luggage. Most of the in-country airlines apparently won't take more than 25 pounds. Do the hotels like the Del Ray and the Presidente have luggage rooms where you can leave your main travel case ?

4. Given that I, like many newbies, don't speak a word of Spanish, what percentage of the chicas would you say have enough of a command of English to allow negotiations and preferences. I heard of one guy who carried little "flash cards" with questions like "Will you do a BBBJ" in both English and Spanish. Anyone care to guess on an approximate percentage of how many chicas speak some English.

5. What exactly is the procedure for signing a chica into the Presidente or the Del Ray. From reading the posts, it would appear that some of the newbie chicas don't understand this and it would be helpful if at least one of us understood how to go about it. Does it differ between the Presidente and the Del Ray ? Once signed in, can you leave the hotel with the chica and return (say after dinner) without having to go through the procedure all over again ? Can the chica leave your room on her own or do you have to go downstairs with her to sign her out. I realize that a gentleman would normally want to escort a lady to a cab, but sometimes NOT.

Any advice on any of the above will be greatly appreciated by me and the newbies who follow.

1) KL is essentially the same as any singles bar in the US (the difference being there is less BS going on). ZB (and most MPs) have the girls sitting in a room quietly waiting for you to signal them. A few have glass partitions. I prefer to talk to a girl for a while before selecting her so have never liked the glass partitions. Of course when they are all sitting in the open it can be awkward if you choose a new girl over a favorita.

2) Hotel Presidente has a bar but they don't permit unaccompanied working girls to look for customers there. Nice mix of mongers, locals and conventional tourists.

3) Upcale hotels may let you keep cash in safe, but I think this is more the exception than the rule. You can store luggage at the Presidente if you are taking a couple days at the beach and then returning.

4) I speak enough Spanish not to know for sure, but I would guess that fewer than 15% speak English. That being said, you will find ways to get around this.

5) At the Presidnte, just walk up to the front desk to sign the girl in. Brief excursions out of room, e.g., the restaurant should not be a problem. Longer abscences depend on the security personnel in the lobby (who are generally reasonable).

Just an amendment to #2. The Presidente does not kick out girls, as I have seen and met a few there. However, I believe they do require them to buy a drink and to be discreet, which is not the case in the Blue Marlin.

You don't need to speak spanish to get laid. The girls know the meaning of blowjob and phuck and they know the value of US dollars.

Knowing spanish will help with the non-sexual activities. For example, ordering at a restaurant and talking to taxi drivers. You might want to learn a few key words like chicken, fish, left, right.

Pelo summed it up pretty well. He omitted the answers to a few of your questions however. Most girls know the procedure for check-in but even if neither of you do it doesn't matter because the desk clerk will know what to do anyway and the "procedure" is quick and painless. A chica can definitely leave the room on her own, but if the front desk is on the ball they should not return her cedula without your calling them or them calling you to confirm everything is okay. Otherwise how would they know if she didn't slip you a mickey or rob you or something.

Really? Does the Presidente now keep the cedula for girls? They always checked it, but never kept it in my experience. The only one I ever brought back to the Presidente was "Karen" from A&S. At 4'8" she wasn't that frightening, so maybe they were not as careful, but they never kept her ID in any of 5 or 6 visits over at least two years. The DR was even looser, one lady said she forgot her card, so we gave the guy who checked us in for the, "service elevator fee," $5.00 to ignore it. She had an 11 year old K*D (who was NOT present), so it was not a case of bringing up somebody und***ge.

I should mention that these observations are somewhat dated, since I got tired of the bar scene and just go to MP's now. Bars are fine to drink or eat in, but I've had enough of , "Hey baby, where jou from?"

To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure of the procedure as I'm usually in such a rush to get upstairs I don't really notice. I do know that they hold the ID at some places I've been. I also recall receiving the confirmation call from the front desk at the Morazon on some occassions when I have let the girl go downstairs alone. They also might just do it if you ask them. It seems to me that this would be a pretty good idea anyway as it provides an added layer of protection for the hotel guest.

I'm not sure about Wanda at Zona Blue but I know Robetrto at Idem will give you recomendations to meet your taste and his recomendations to me were outstanding.Same price too by the way and I had my best experiences of trip there.rbc100

When ZB first opened I got two or three recommendations from Wanda. They were not only good choices but had a certain level of specificity that made me wonder what the vetting process was. :wink: (Just kidding, Wanda).

For ZB, you should also rely on the posts of fellow mongers. They are almost always dead on.

On the occasions I was at ZB and didn't see one of my favorites, I always asked Wanda for her reccomendations. I was told they go through a screening and training process.. OH HOW I WOULD LOVE TO volunteer my services as the person used for training... I promise I wont complain...

Go with your instincts but Wanda will never steer you wrong.

As i wrote in my trip report, the first visit to ZB, I chose the gril after a bit of a "hands-on" lineup. For a variety of reasons, including my own nervousness etc. my choice didn't really work out for me. My tico pal made the recommendation at Item based upon looks alone, but he was absolutely right. My second visit to ZB, Wanda recommended Marcella to me, and I followed her suggestion, with fantastic results! (I gotta figure out how to send Wanda champagne, flowers and a Bentley as tokens of thanks). To Jose the Newbie: I am still in many ways a newbie, and I had the time of my life in San Jose. My suggestions would be these: 1.) Learn at least a little Spanish, or travel with a friend who speaks it. Cabbies, many store clerks, waiters and others with whom you'll deal might not speak any English at all, and a little Spanish will make your time with your chicas much more fun. 2.) Try to hook up with a couple other mongers with more experience than you. Try not to disgrace yourself in front of them. Listen, watch, learn. 3.) Keep reading this forum. 4.) Be street-smart at all times, but don't get hostile. Little problems should be kept in perspective, no need to get all bent out of shape over a small issue. 5.) Obey local laws, and don't flip the finger at the locals. You'll do fine!
