Newbie in Rock and Metal:What metal bands should I start with?

I got into hard rock - Guns N Roses,Scrorpions,Alice In Chains,Nirvana,Foo Fighters etc.Want to start with metal.What bands to start with?

If you want to delve into death metal, or melodic death metal, listen to these guys:

-Children of Bodom (Don't bother with their newer albums. They're rubbish. Keep away from "Blooddrunk", or "Reckless, Relentless, Forever")
-Amon Amarth
-Kiuas
-Kalmah
-Norther
-Tyr


If you want some softer stuff with less growling and screaming, listen to Breaking Benjamin. They used to be my favourite band when I started listening to music with distorted guitars. They have both hard and soft songs. Go for anything on "Saturate" or "We are not alone", but their later 2 albums are not very good.

Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest are always a good start for Metal.

If you want to get more into Extreme Metal, start with Death and Bathory.

first start with the easy to get into bands like:
metallica
iron maiden
slipknot
rammstein
system of a down

if you like metallica i suggest you continue with trash metal: slayer, megadeth, anthrax, testament.
if you like the iron maiden sound you can listen to bands like: judas priest, motorhead.
and even melodic death metal: children of bodom, in flames.

if you like slipknot system of a down, wich are nu - metal dont continue with the nu metal genre because the rest are all the same! try some chimaira, five finger death punch, volbeat.

if you like rammstein then you probably like industrial metal!

Metallica's first 4 albums, Megadeth's first 4 albums. When you feel like something heavier, move onto Slayer's first album and eventually Seasons in the Abyss (it's also a Slayer album). If you want something heavier after that, try Cannibal Corpse or Death (Death may be a better starter).
