newbie soccer offsides question?

i am watching the mexico vs south africa game so I will use them as examples. lets say mexico has a corner kick.....why wouldnt south africa push all their players except the goalie to midfield. if mexico takes the corner and a mexican player touches the ball behind south african players it would be an offside. so mexico would be forced to kick the ball to midfield from the corner. what am i missing?

If Mexico is taking a corner kick why would SA push their players away from the goal ? The defenders and mid fielders will be marking mexicans players while strikers can either choose to defend or to prepare for a counter attack. Now for your second question its a no. Players get offside during normal gameplay when they are behind opposing team's defenders at the point of time the ball is being passsed to that particular player. Mexico would not have to kick the ball to the middle of the field after they have taken a corner. I hope this clears things up for you at least a little bit.

You cannot be offside directly on a corner kick. So the first touch after the kick would not be an infraction.

Let's say the first attacker controlled the ball, he could pass it to anyone behind the ball and it would not be offside. He would merely have to be careful not to pass it to anyone in front of him.

In the meantime, the goal keeper would die of a heart attack due to the 8-on-1 situation presented to him.
