Nikon D90 Newbie, why are my pictures coming out blurred?

I did the "two button" reset thinking maybe I changed something while checking out all the shutter speeds and such- but it's still 'pixelated' or kind of blurred edges- not at all like it was before :( I was trying to find a good combo of settings to use with a mini studio I set up to take my children's photos, and think I jacked it up- any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
I'm shooting in 'A' with portrait with a sharpness of 3, white balance auto ISO between 200-400, and F5. I haven't used it for a few days- so I cant remember what it was set at before, or if my monsters were pushing buttons :(
