No Beef at Taco Bell

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — An Alabama law firm claims in a lawsuit that Taco Bell is using false advertising when it refers to using "seasoned ground beef" or "seasoned beef" in its products.

The meat mixture sold by Taco Bell restaurants contains binders and extenders and does not meet the minimum requirements set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be labeled as "beef," according to the legal complaint.

The class-action lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court in the Central District of California by the Montgomery law firm Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles.

Attorney Dee Miles said attorneys had Taco Bell's "meat mixture" tested and found it contained less that 35 percent beef.

Miles said the lawsuit does not seek monetary damages, but asks the court to order Taco Bell to be honest in its advertising.

"We are asking that they stop saying that they are selling beef," Miles said.

Irvine, Calif.-based Taco Bell spokesman Rob Poetsch (PAYCH) said the company denies that its advertising is misleading.

"Taco Bell prides itself on serving high quality Mexican inspired food with great value. We're happy that the millions of customers we serve every week agree," Poetsch said. He said the company would "vigorously defend the suit."

The lawsuit says that Taco Bell's "seasoned beef" contains other ingredients, including water, wheat oats, soy lecithin, maltodrextrin, anti-dusting agent and modified corn starch.

all burger and fast food joints have additives in their meat to keep it moist so this is nothing new. This is actually old news as I read about it about a month ago.

TB put out a press release as to what actually is in their ground beef and it does meet (or is it meat? lol) the minimum USDA requirements to be labelled "beef".

Every so often a story like this leaks out and now with the internet, it goes viral in no time. Just because someone says something online, and a million agree, doesn't make it true. Just like back in the 80's when McDonald's was accused of putting worms in their beef....it didn't slow down sales at all. The real issue wasn't that they put worms in their beef, but that the USDA allows for a certain percentage of insects etc in meat for human consumption....

No matter what, just another reason to not eat at these places......

One has to wonder if the mini cgs are allowed to eat at McD's........(I'm betting not)

The "mini cg's" or "Cyclette's" as we call them have also seen Supersize me... and no longer have the desire eat at McD's. They do however enjoy the occasional pizza (but they still prefer Mrs. CG's homemade pizza) and an Arby's once in awhile... and we all enjoy the occasional Subway sammich... especially as a packed lunch on our summer canoe trips. :great:

Having said this, we do sometimes take them to McD's for an ice cream flurry as a special treat. :love:

Oh, it was a 30 day "anti-diet" and at the end of the movie... it actually says it took MORE than a year to regain his original starting weight...

that's the thing: there are "good" (as good as prepared foods can be) fast foods that don't do you much harm. Too many people concentrate on fat content and ignore all the preservatives etc that goes into it.

Whenever I see something in a vac formed container (Like the cheese curds for Harvey's pseudo poutine) I start to cringe.......

Back to the original story for a second: You have to smack people who are "surprised" by this revelation. I mean seriously, do they think they're getting prime rib? I mean really, they're buying a taco for a dollar and that includes the overhead to make the fricken thing AND operate the buisness, maintain the equipment, utilities, wages etc......

I bet true latino cooks/moms cringe when they think of what TB did to their food....when I was in FLA I went to a real mexican restaurant that served fare that wasn't bastardized.....oh man, I could have eaten there every day.......
