NORTHAMPTON — The Police Department issued a press release Friday saying it has investigated four businesses in Northampton for allegedly engaging in sexual conduct for money.
None of the businesses was charged with a crime, but police, working with local, state and federal agencies, said they found multiple code violations during inspections "at several locations in the city" on Friday, and non-criminal sanctions were issued.
Two of the businesses, Revival Body Works and Massage on 241 King St. and Relax and Wellness Asian Massage at 6 Market St., were closed by the city's Health Department.
Last April, detectives received a report of alleged sexual contact for money at a local body work business. During the course of the resulting investigation, police learned that three other businesses were allegedly engaged in the same activity.
The Northampton Police Department worked with the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, the Northwestern District Anti-Crime Task Force, the Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure, the Northampton Fire Department, the Northampton Health Department, the Division of Professional Licensure and the Department of Homeland Security to investigate the allegations.
"We will continue to assist with the enforcement of code violations and will investigate all allegations of criminal conduct that are brought to us by the community," the release stated.
The press release was issued one day after a South Hadley man offering "Tantric Lingam Massage" and "Sensual" massage on the Internet was arraigned in Northampton District Court on a charge of arranging sexual conduct for a fee.
