CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – A woman from New York is facing charges of promoting prostitution and human trafficking at a Cary massage parlor.

Court records show Hong Yu Li of Flushing, New York is charged with human trafficking adult victim, promoting prostitution for profits, sexual servitude of an adult victim, and involuntary servitude of adult victim.

Arrest warrants showed Li was arrested and charged for incidents at Moon Aroma Therapy located at 1143-H Executive Circle in Cary. Those warrants say she compelled massage therapists at the establishment to conduct sexual acts at the end of massage sessions with clients in exchange for additional money. The profits from the massage and sexual acts preformed, warrants say, were collected each night.

A search of state business records do now show Li as the owner of Moon Aroma Therapy so her relationship to the business remains unclear.

One recent Google review of the establishment stated, “This is a “happy ending” type place. If your husband has left a positive review you may want to ask him why.”

In 2023, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina Michael Easley launched a new task force to battle human trafficking in the Raleigh-Cary area. The task force meets regularly to share intelligence and investigative leads, receive specialized training, develop investigative tools and expertise for law enforcement agencies. The task force includes members of three prosecutorial offices and 11 law enforcement agencies.

Last year, Easley said his office’s efforts resulted in 12 defendants receiving sentences averaging 98 months, with one defendant receiving a sentence of more than 32 years in prison. Other individuals are facing charges that have not yet resolved.
