I am a new therapist and have worked at Massage Envy for about 4 months. I am loving my job and work on around 4 clients a day. Occasionally, I have massaged individuals who are large and I have developed a different approach and technique for them. However, I have a had a few obese clients and one booked a two-hour session with me this weekend! The thing is when I work with obese clients I rarely feel like I am being effective. Even though they seem to enjoy the work I never notice any palpable change in the tissue and man does it take forever to get the superficial muscles warmed up. And then when I go back to a previous area it's cold again! I can't really palpate much and even in the course of two hours I'm unsure that I'll be able to affect all the tissues of the body (in a full-body session).
I am looking for advice from fellow MT's with experience working with obese clients - particularly techniques. I do basic Swedish and Deep Tissue and also like to work with TP's. Also, I am having a hard time finding some reading on the subject of massaging obese clients.
Thanks for the help everyone
