ok job choices?

So i got offered a position at massage hell (massage envy lol) and i know your all gonna say OMG NOOOO lol
ya i said that too .. BUT keep in mind this is my first job im just starting out. I know they pay like complete crap! But the place and the people seemed very nice. Actually alot of people i went to school with are there so i felt very comfortable. Again .. they pay like crap l know lol. Maybe i felt comfortable cuz i figured im just starting so this will give me the practice i need to be more confident in a bigger place?
Anyway .. so today i had an interview with a bigger spa here in charlotte .. theyve been established for 7 years.. have therapists that have been there for 6 yrs. (massage envy just opened here december 9th still building clientel but are in a FANTASTIC area)
So the interview went well... i guess it was more like an intorduction because she really didnt ask me any questions which i found odd. I had to stop her and TELL her what i am capable of doing n so forth. She wants to hire me as an "independant contractor" not sure how that sort of thing works they give 50 percent and deduct a fee at the end of the week which is only like 6% which isnt bad considering they take care of evertything the only thing u have to do is show up but again no questions no demo just basically if u have a license the room is yours thanks bye ... maybe im weird but i didnt really feel comfortable with that lol. 1 statement i REALLY didnt like was "even if u dont know how to do something i.e. body wraps hot stone whatever and we needed it done could u wing it ?" lol umm no ? lol HELPPPP i need to make a decision like asap kids cryin if u need more info ask lol thanks

Go with your gut. What do you feel the right place for you right now is?

I have gotten jobs before without doing an actual "interview". Usually it was based off my resume and reputation.

As for asking you to "wing it" on treatments that you don't know or aren't comfortable with - I wouldn't like that either.
Working as an IC - I liked better.
What would the 6% fee at the end of the week be for?
Have the same therapists been working there for 6 years? That is usually a good sign. But they could just be telling you that.

I graduated from Southeastern in Charlotte, an I've started my own practice, but I have been out interviewing. Most of the time they were just happy that a therapist has showed up on their doorstep. i too say go with your instinct. don't let others persuade you not to get a job at a place that you think is right for you at the time. let me comment on a couple of things though...1. a therapist who's been somewhere for 6 years doesn't really tell you anything. it could be the place is great and that's why they've stayed. or i could mean they suck and can't get a job somewhere else. it could also mean that they have the patience to put up with more than others. 2. you've said already. it's weird that they didn't ask you more questions and they want you to "wing it" if the occasion arises. i'd be really uncomfortable with that too. 3. what's the 6% for????? sounds strange to me and is it 6% of income with tips too? that could add up to be a lot.

one of the reasons i don't like not having to give a massage as part of the interview is that it means others aren't either. what if someone else gets a job working with you and they're terrible? to me, that's my reputation as well. you could be a great therapist but if other therapists work with you that do not give their clients a good massage, that will reflect on the entire place, which could mean it could hurt your business. you know the way people talk..."yeah, i had a massage at that place. it wasn't very good" or "i would go back there". you know what i mean?
