Had my minimally invasive spine surgery with Mr Knight on Thursday. Op lasted just over 2 hours in which a lot of disc material was removed at L5/S1 and after discovering problems at 2 other levels (L4/L5 and S1/S2), a lot of clean up work was done to free nerves and make more room in the spinal canal.
I was awake for most of the time and only felt some pain during the nerve probing and lasering, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the pain I'd had for the last 8 months. After the op I had post op pain across the lower back but that faded after 5 or 6 hours, and then I tried to get up.
WOW, what a difference. I was able to stand up fully and then walk un-aided. All my leg pain had gone, and the crippling lower back pain was also gone. I was so excited I started doing laps of the hospital corridors
I'm now in my 2nd day post op and I still feel great. I'm not doing anything silly and I am preparing myself for a flare up (more likely for me says Mr Knight since it was such a big op) but I have a lot of guidleines (medication and physio instructions) to follow if and when that happens.
Anyway just wanted to update you on how it went. Right now I'm just over the moon and so excited to have got my life back.
This is a great community and I don't think I could have gotten through it all without the advice and messages from some great people on here.
I'll keep you posted on how I get on over the next few weeks.
All the best
Jim
