Well, I remember sitting on the computer discussing with y'all trying to decide whether or not to lease this place, setting it up, and how to plan our Grand Opening last year.
Now, we are busily working on planning our First Anniversary Party! Woohoo!
I know that we are still "just at the beginning" of this journey. Well, maybe the Baby's learning how to stand and take those first few, wobbly, uncertain steps. But we're One Year Old, and still here! What a rush!
We have had quite a roller coaster ride over the past year. From struggling to figure out how to start up and get rolling with the business, to some very serious personal/family things happening (some of which did affect the business in one way or another- like when DH cut his hand and needed stitches right after we opened, and the miscarriage I had right after I got certified for prenatal massage), to frustrations with getting our web site set up, designed, and "reader-worthy" (and I'm still working on that!), to taking those trips for continuing education that we *might* should not have spent all that money on, to the ongoing and quite exciting process of learning about effective marketing for our industry in our area, I can say that the past year Has. Not. Been. Dull.
I am truly amazed, as I look back over the enormous amount of information we have taken in and at least attempted to process. I know that there is still Far More To Learn- both as far as running *A* business goes, and *This* business (massage) in particular. One of the things I love so very much about our field is that there IS no end to what can be learned about the human body (and animals too- remember, DH does still work on horses too!), and how to effect and facilitate healing and rest therein. Clients come and clients go (even those who adamantly say "you're stuck with us for life!"), but it never fails that when one or two fall off the face of the Earth, new faces always show up to grace our lives.
I love what we do. I love working with my husband in something that we BOTH believe in, something about which we are BOTH so passionate (albeit in very different areas- his, pain management/therapeutic and mine, prenatal). I love that we can control our schedules, and spend time together even in the midst of the workday. And yet, I can also be with my children in the middle of the day too. This is a life that many would envy (or so we have been told). Challenges still abound- and always will, I know. The Journey is still very new and there is still quite a distance to be traveled. Hopefully, our Path will remain commingled with this "business" we call Massage for quite some time- we like it here.
I feel like I'm "waxing philosophical". I feel like there is still so much more that I want to express. I am profoundly humbled, encouraged, blessed, and downright excited to be able to say:
"We've made it a whole year, and in 'this economy, too'! Woohoo!"
And you guys have been here to help me along the way. Thanks a bunch- it means a lot to me. I'm glad I have y'all to share this with.
