Online dating for a newbie?

Hey, I need a little help here...Basically I'm 18 years old and over the last month, just before christmas, I got talking to this guy online. When we got talking we decided to exchange msn's and got talking some more.
Judging from talking to him we seem to have a lot in common strangely enough - we even have the same first name :L

So about 2 weeks ago we exchanged facebooks and he still seems interested in me even though I have very bad self confidence issues with looks, I even asked him is he sure he likes me? But he still says he does. One major issue I have is him not liking what he sees in person compared to the pictures I have up

So aside from that, things progressed up until yesterday, just talking, but naturally one of us was going to bring up the whole meeting in person issue eventually, so he did. We both said yes we should sometime, But I'm very nervous about the whole thing as im a bit shy and not used to the whole online dating thing.
If we are going to meet up how long should I leave it to meet him in person? because I'm busy with school etc so it would be hard to meet somewhere halfway between us. Im free mid February for midterm break but would that be too far away? should I make it sooner? Im afraid he will gradually lose interest if I leave it so long before meeting up :/
And if we did meet up what exactly would be do? Ive never really done online dating before so i'm a complete novice.

If anybody has any tips and pointers about my situation/first time online dating, it would be much appreciated Anything to help me calm my nerves and and to know what exactly to do with my situation that would help me so much. I really don't want to lose this opportunity by stalling and worrying because im very into him :/ I just don't know what to do!
