oooooooh help - first talk in reflexology

I have been asked to give a talk and demos for a ladies evening on the 12 Oct. I willingly agreed but am getting a bit panicky now. There will be 150 people [], with 5 stations (me being one of them) so they will split people into groups and they spend 20 mins at each station.

I had thought about doing a little intro on history of reflexology, how I got into it (through a miraculous recovery of a friend with refl.), um how it works, effects of stress on body and giving some demos on people in the group... but not quite sure how to keep everyone interested whilst working on people. Also, doubt this will take up 20 mins?

Any ideas/suggestions/experiences would be great

Scary isn't it? I did this the other week. I had 24 hours notice and just blagged it out. If you are passionate about reflexology and believe in the therapy, love doing it etc. You'll find that you will carry people along with you and the 20 mins will fly over. Don't know how you can do treatments at the same time - that's quite hard. I find it hard to concentrate on anything else when I have a pair of feet in front of me. My main problem at my night was that no-one wanted to "get their feet out". I did another one once where a succession of people just got up onto the couch and had a 15 minute taster - they tend to ask questions as they go this way. That was OK too.

Whichever way this works out, I'm sure you'll be fine. Look forward to hearing how you get on.

Have you got a colleague who can do while you talk or vice versa? I'm a bit shy but have a colleague who is more outgoing. We're going to try to do a talk and demo, with her doing the talking bit and me and possibly another lady demonstrating. It depends on the size of the group. Anyway, good luck to you and let us know how you get on!

I was a bit nervous too when I did this Vida. Perhaps you should try the line Bono used at the Labour conference: "Forgive me if I'm nervous, I'm not used to addressing less than a hundred thousand people." (Though I think it works better if you're a rock star).

But seriously, you shouldn't find a problem filling the time. A good way to start is to ask what people already know about reflexology - someone may even have tried it before, and you don't want to sound too patronizing if people are quite well informed. On the other hand, you may well have a few misconceptions to correct!

On the contrary, I found it's the practical part which really interests people, though with that number of people you'll have to be careful to make your model as visible as you can.

I sympathise, Ambermoon, with the problem about finding a volunteer! I've found that after the first person tries and enjoys it, there is normally a flood, but getting that first person into the chair can be a problem. Have others found this? How did you get around this Ambermoon?
