OTOP bars

Guys - where exactly is OTOP. I have been to Tong few times and will be there end of month. Is it opposite to Christie Massage parlor?

i always hang out on Bangla. Any other cluster of bars close to Bangla. I stay close to Bangla and hate to walk too far from there and definitely don't like the Tuk-Tuk's.

hard to miss as you will suddenly see loads of market stalls.....the bars are in soi in the centre maybe a hundred metres in

Tell either Dave and Lars (Owners) there that 'Denver sent me!' and you will either be given a wry smile and a beer or told to leave!

Does exactly what the name implies but you should be safe coming from Chicago unless you have a mullet haircut, wearing a 'wife beater' and say 'G'Day mate' a lot.

Other than the OTOP, I like the bars in Sunset Plaza opposite the Absolute Resort. If you walk down Bangla Rd to the junction of Beach Rd, turn left and walk along Beach Rd until you get to the Absolute Resort and then turn left. Bars are on the corner when you turn.
Found them a good place for a good afternoon drink, normally with plenty of people around.

I agree, sunset plaza bars on the corner of beach road are usually livelier daytime bars and serve food in house.
None of them have Taking the piss type names though...555

I have to correct you a bit there dear boy 5555 Lars is the owner of "Merry Aussie Bar" and Dave is the owner of Quokka Bar, both in the same area. And both nice and friendly bars for an early evening drink.......................

I was diameter a few days ago during the daytime. Quite a number of bars and everyone seemed to have 'Aussie' somewhere in the name. Ok in the day, but a bit hot. It probably is a bit more lively at night.

Definately a good location for a few day time drinks and a warm up before a big night on Bangla.
Many are Australian owned or marketed towards the Australians.
Blondies Bar 2 as mentioned very friendly.

I found the Apple Bar @ OTOP to be my "local" for daytime/pre drinks. Nutt, Jazz and the rest of the girls in there were always up for anything and one day I got them all quite drunk in the afternoon sun. They got a bit careless and started handing out several free shots and cranking the music. I bailed shortly after and walked into Bangla and when I went back the next day, Nutt told me she had slept behind the bar on a deck chair last night.... "too much dlunk. cannot walk my room"

otop is good in the day but sunset plaza is alot better, because its more busy and not in the blazing sun!

^ i was doing a combination of the 2 (otop-sunset) for an afternoon/evening drink...i kinda like the both of them for different reasons but in small doses.

Love the OTOP bars. I've stayed in hotels close to OTOP twice so it was convenient to go down there for a drink. Spent a fair bit of time at the "5! 5! Bar"
