PAMPER NIGHT - ADVICE PRETTY PLEASE!

Hi all,

I have been asked to provide some massagetreatments at a party. This is a party where there will be alcohol! I need some advice please?

I have never done anything like this before and therefore don't know if I should dismiss this out of hand because of the alcohol, or would I be shooting myself in the foot and doing myself out of the much needed business?! How do you get around this?

Also, I need to carry out some kind of consultation and this can not be done beforehand as the host will not know who will be at the party until the night arrives. I will have very little time to carry outconsultations on the guests. The host mentioned that she had a similiar event before and that no consultations were given as they were just 15 min massage treatmentthat were given.

The treatments that she would like me to give are as follows: hand and arm, foot and leg, shoulder and back.

Also, what would you charge? There is very little travel involved. Would you charge per treatment or for time?
I don't know how many people at the party will want a treatment and again this wont be known until the night! She wants me to perform all thetreatments with the clientseated infront of the group so that they can continue to socialise at the party.

Advice greatly needed and appreciated. This event is a week away!

I took part in something similar last year - only there were 4 therapists involved. There were about 50 people at the party.It was being used as a fundraiser, but theygave me my hourly rate, which at the time was £25, so I'earned' £60. A handout was given to each 'partygoer' as they arrived, telling them what was on offer, and they then approached the therapist that they wanted to 'try'. I had a sheet of paper on a table at the end of my couch, and on this, there was a list of 'sessions' of around 15 minutes. I worked from 7.30pm until 10pm and saw around 10 people. I did not bother with consult sheets - I just asked if there was anything I should be made aware of such asa medical condition. One woman told me that she was on warfarin for a DVT so I told her that I would not treat her. I am sure I was being too cautious, but she was very understanding and has since become a regular client!
Don't be worried about being the centre of attention - you won't be - they'll all start chatting and ignore you!!
I enjoyed myself, and although there was alcohol available, no one had more than 2 glasses - it was all very civilised. They raised nearly £700 for the charity.

There was a thread a few weeks ago where someone was doing a pamper event - that thread had some useful tips.

Do take consultation forms with you. I use them even for 15 minute treatments. It can be just one page for you to get their contact details and have questions that just need a yes/no answers - if they do have something they can elaborate on it. You can contact them at a later point for future treatments if they are agreeable.

Charge for your time - it will be less confusing. I've done a pamper event and people paid £7 for 15 minutes. Maybe charging £5 might be easier in terms of giving change.

So that your'e not hanging around all evening, why don't you give her a time slot eg you'll give treatments between 7pm to 9.30pm I'm sure she can let the guests know.

Not sure how you'll avoid the alchol issue - I'd not be comfortable if people were too merry. Hopefully pople won't be overdoing the alcohol consumption.

Take your business cards with you.

Hi I haven't done a pamper evening but I have done some taster sessions at various events and some pamper sessions at a hairdressers. Anyway - I have tended to charge £5 for 15 minutes like Essence99 said so that you don't have to worry about change. I'm doing some pampering in two weeks and this time it's £7 for 20/25 minutes but now I'm thinking what a silly price as I will have to have some change!!!

I have always done a short consultation. Basically I have asked for their name and address, asked if they have any medical conditions (showing them a list similar to the kind of thing that I would normally ask in my normal consultations), asked if they are taking any medication and then got them to sign. After every taster session that I have done, I have always sent them a letter afterwards with an offer of some kind - so it is REALLY important to get their name and address.

I also take business cards, a few leaflets and always an offer for if they book in the future. One of my friends gives them their money back if they book in for a treatment in the future, i.e. she charges them £5 and then takes the £5 off their next treatment. I take the £5 and then offer £3 off their next treatment.

The alcohol issue - I have this in the hairdressers that I do some pampering at. To be honest, I advise them not to drink etc etc but at the end of the day it is up to them. I wouldn't treat anybody who had already had a few glasses but I doubt that you will get that anyway. But it's just like having a client normally isn't it? I had a guy last night who looked at me in amazement that he shouldn't go home after his treatment and have a few beers whilst he watched the football. Now whether he followed my advise or not I really don't know??!! I think at the end of the day you can only do your best on that issue.

Anyway that's enough from me!!!! I am sure it will be a great experience. Girls love that kind of thing! You'll be really busy x
