Parking your car North of the border. How safe is it?

I park by Jack in the box, on the west side just over the bridge for two reasons. It's cheaper than the $9 dollar parking lot, and when you come back over the border, you can just walk to you car very fast instead of walking over the bridge, but on the way into TJ, you'll have to walk over the bridge.

I park in two places depending on the car I take. My older car, I park directly behind Jack in the box, up the small hill. It's $5 dollars and you pay first.( a good thing in case you're concerned spending all your money or getting robbed)

The other place is right across from Jack In the box, next to the trolly. It can be expensive between $6 and $12 dollars, you usually pay on the way out. But it has better security, as the guy is usually always there, it's well lit, and very open. So a place like that will tend to discourage car thieves. ( I take my nicer car here)

Welcome to TJ. I have been to TJ for sometime. I get free parking all the time. Just park at the Motel 6 on E street. Then walk to the trolley and go to TJ. Your car will be very safe because there is a security guard patrolling that Motel.

I have done this many many times and I have never had any problems.

I like the one across from the Jack-in-the Box as it is closer to the border when you leave...and you can get on the freeway quicker and easier to go back home. It is more expensive though...I don't remember the price.

There are 3 parking lots on the West side of I-5. The UETA lot is probably the biggest and it's the closest to the border entrance. The last time I parked here in March it was $9 for 24 hours. The other big lot on the West side is the one that the Mexicoach buses use. I think it's $7 a day but you need to have your car out by 8 or 9am or they will charge for another day.There's another small lot that is owned by a mexican insurance company. This lot was $5 dollars a day in May 2006 but you have to have your car out by 8am. Of these 3 I would say that the Mexicoach lot is the safest because there's a high chain link fence around the lot and there is only one entrance and exit. The other 2 are out in the open.

East of the I-5 I think there are 3 or possibly 4 parking lots. I've only used one of the East side lots. The one next to Jack in the Box. To park here it's $5 dollars for 8 hours. I would think that the lots on the East side would be safer to park at only because they are a smaller.

there are several lots around the border...and I think the price you quoted is about average. They all provide security. I know a few guys that have had cars stolen at the border when parking on the street to save a few dollars.

In the late 90's, I use to park at the E Street trolley station lot and trolley down. It was free, and I never had any problems, but I don't think my car was too safe there. Always parked under a lightpole.

I'm planning to park my car North of the border (and walk across the border to TJ).

I wonder how safe is it?

The very last time I was there, I recall, there was only one parking lot, and I had to pay them 8 to 10 bucks, but I din't see any security guard/cop/attendant!

How safe is it to leave my car in that lot?

Is there a better,safer place? Like a fully enclosed, parking GARAGE (not too far from the border)?
