Partner in a lot of pain.

My partner has been in a lot of pain with his back for about 2 months. The pain seems to start at base of spine and goes up muscle either side of spine. He is in so much pain and has to come home from work early etc. When the pain gets very bad it makes him physically sick. He has been to docs twice and is now awaiting blood test results and x ray. They want to rule out ankylosing spondylitis.

I am at a loss what to do while waiting for results, the pain relief from the docs seem to be doing nothing and he won't let me massage him as it hurts too much. Any advice would be gratefully received. I feel helpless when he is hurting so much!!
