Pathology books???

Hi, everyone!
I'm new to the forum but it already has helped me in numerous aspects. Thank's!
Now the question - I'm looking for a good pathology book. And so far I found couple with mixed up reviews. It's looks like the most experienced LMT's do not advise to go by Pathology Guides written for bodyworkers. Too many mistakes.

Any specific books you can trust? I will apreciate every input.

I found this pathology book very useful. A Massage Therapist's Guide to Pathology, Ruth Werner. Third Edition.

This is a great book for quick referencing on pathology. It's basic, but does the job when you need info now and don't have time to do a lot of research. Hope this helps.

I was looking up all publications and that's what i found about Werner's book:

All you have to do is look at the referances the author sited for this book to be scared by it- few and unreliable. Please note that there are sections in here that are absolutely incorrect. If you just want to pass National cert. this is a great book. But if you honor your proffession and wish to know pathology - not just what National Cert asks you (often incorrectly).... Look more. Please respect yourself and your client, and buy a book with complete and correct information

2.As a Nationaly Certified Medical Massage Therapist with 20+ years in practice, this book disturbed me. While it is clear and conscise on many things, it's section on Fibromyalgia is disurbing, and makes me wonder what else she got wrong. Fibromyalgia is not a muscular disorder. It has widespread diffuse pain, but specific muscle pain is caused by Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome. Even though the two syndromes frequestly co-exist, they are not the same thing. Fibro sufferers often have significant reduction in the effeciency of the Lymphatic system, resulting in significant intersitial swelling etc. She lists only two references to a disease that affects 10% of the popluation. What this text does not mention is that a significant number of pathologies that are listed as "contraindications" respond well to massage therapy if the practitioner has had appropriate training in pathology specific techniques

That's exactly what made me to question the quality of pathology books for LMT.

I did see those reviews as well on Amazon. What I found is that the reviews were duplicated for all of her pathology books, possibly the past editions. I'm not sure if they were directed towards the Third Edition version.

Anyway, I found this particular pathology book very useful.

If you are looking for a quick reference guide, this may not be the choice.

As a quick reference to pathology's for signs and symptoms, pathogenesis and definitions, I use Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary
http://www.Tabers19.com as well as the Merck Manual. For a detailed description of pathologies, Pathology: Implications for the Physical Therapist (Goodman, Boissonault, Fuller) is a very detailed textbook and if you're looking for direction on treating certain pathologies, Clinical Massage Therapy (Rattray, Ludwig) has quite detailed descriptions of the conditions, CI's, Indications and then various treatment techniques. ALL of these are required texts at the College I attend. Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy.
