PATONG: Soi Eric in Bangla Road's entertainment district has been sold to the owner and operator of Soi Crocodile in what would appear to be a major expansion and what may possibly lead to a new ladyboy entertainment zone, Amnuay Kuabkum, former Manager of Crocodile Disco, has told the Gazette.
Soi Crocodile more commonly known as “Soi Katoey” because of its go-go dancing ladyboys, is home to one of Patong’s most popular strips of beer bars.
K. Amnuay explained that the owner of Soi Crocodile, has decided to forge ahead with plans to merge the two major entertainment areas and create a new upmarket ladyboy attraction popular with many international tourists.
“We are very happy to try to make an area where the tourists can come and meet the ladyboys and take photos and make friends with them but in a nice place with lots of nice bars for all the family,” K. Amnuay said.
“We want to make an area that is clean and has nice seating for the tourists to bring their family which is not so crowded. Many tourists come to Patong to see the Ladyboys but there are too many people in Crocodile and not enough seating to meet all the ladyboys,” he added.
K. Amnuay went on to explain, “We have many ladyboys already who have agreed to work for us in our new entertainment area and the plans already approved and the finance has been agreed but there is still some work to do with the owners of Soi Eric and we want to talk to them first.”
He explained, however, that the owner has taken on a partner to help finance building the new entertainment complex next year.
