Patong will be busier than ever in a few months

You know, I think Patong will be busier than most ppl think in a few months...I am heading there just for the "support" factor (sincereley) I have only just this last few months returned from an around the world trip..I started here from Perth in May,the day before my 50th birthday...spent my 50th at MTB..another 10 days in Phuket and continued my trip.......I really cant afford to go off again..BUT I am purely to show "SUPPORT" and I think there are an enormous amount of others who are thinking the same way..I have spoken to loads of ppl who normally head to Bali but are considering Phuket once they know hotels,water,and other utilities are back to normal.....all the bars dont have to be rebuilt.....crikey all as you need is the beer, ice and an esky....and maybe a little perfume wafting around ...C'mon Aussie c'mon...c'mon

The "support" thing was one of the reasons I went at New year, but to be honest, people who think like us are a distinct minority. I got back to the UK on wednesday, and when I tell people where I've been and tell them everything's OK (in Patong at least) they simply look at me like I've gone nuts. Most people think the whole of Thailand is a smoking hole in the ground, its pretty depressing.

I do not believe in busier than ever, but I have been told that Patong
was too busy before 26/12 and since I do not have any business interests I think I will like it a little bit less crowdy.

I can agree with you Molly, as far as you speak about "Support". I don't think there will be more tourist in a few months, because there where to much horror stories all over the world and people remember the bad things best. I was there at December 26th, but left a few days later to Samui to escape the damage and sad stories. Now I'm back home in Holland and already looking in the internet for a flight to Phuket in July. Normally I would not go to the same country twice in such a short time. I think this is in a way for the same reason you have "support" and perhaps to finish the vacation I started in December. But you have to keep in mind that we know how the situation really is in Patong and most other people in the world don't.

I doubt there will more people in phuket over the coming mounths, so Im thinking Ill head over for a month or two,....cos there gunna be a hell of a lot of beer to be drunk. Ill be doing my bit for phuket by warming a bar stool and drinking beer till me back teeth are floating.
maybe I mite even find a true love or two, or there or four.

guys i dont know if there will be alot of people. im here now, and im having fun no matter what, but it is depressing. all the hotels in kata and karon are empty. theres no one eating in the restaurants. the bars are about the only places that are getting any business. i wish people would realize that it isnt that bad, they are lumping ohuket in with all the major disaster areas

Maybe now they'll appreciate us punters and "who*remongers" a little more. While all the big money family businesses are going begging, the Tiger Bars were still pretty happening last night, and although the other sois may be a little slower than normal, they still have business, because tsunami or no t, guys still get just as horny fot the BGs as ever. You can't ay that about families who will take there business elsewhere at the first sign of trouble!

Don't know about the rest of the world, but there has not been one positive story regarding Thailand in Australian news since the Tsunami, and when they do report on it, they always make a big deal about the devastation in phuket (sometimes showing pics that are clearly not phuket), rather than report on the other really badly affected places in SE Asia....Biased stories/articles like this annoy the sh*t out of me, it's down right irresponsible, not to mention immoral.
But hey if it sells it sells...... :sad:

its all politics. speaking for the US. they have a grea diplomatic relationship with thailand, so thats all they talk about in US. also, many more foreigners died in phuket, compared to ko lak and phagan na, so they concentrate on that too

more foreigners died in khao lak than anywhere else in thailand put together.also more thais died in khao lak than anywhere else in thailand put together.khao lak was devasted and will never be the same again i doubt.i will also point out more foreigners died in khao lak than thais.

Good point Steve. I guess that Phuket is shown on the news/newspapers as its the most well known of Thai resorts to have been hit.
