Phuket Off Season

Hi there

I am hoping to make another trip to Asia this year and hope to have a few days of mongering as well. I have been to Phuket before and I'm currently deliberating over Phuket & Pattaya.

If I were to go off season, I appreciate there can be some rain during the day and night which can range from 1-2 hours to 1-2 days. I understand this can be a pain for tours and going out in general, however is the P4P scene still ok during the off season or do a lot of the girls go back home?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The weathe in June/July was alot better than in March last year.

I was in Pukhet in May last year - cloudy most of the time but think it only rained a few times. Had no problem with any of the trips and seemed to be plenty of girls around.

I am scheduled for a return in August. They say the weather is usually mixed with the occasional steady rain to make things challenging. BUt hopping bar to bar in Patong does not seem to be enough challenge to keep me away. Any feelings on the first of August-15th?

I had my first trip Patong in December...Awesome. Thinking about going again the first week of July. Are the discos/clubs like Hollywood and TaiPan busy as well - or just the bars on Bangla Road?

Am I better off going to Samui or Pattaya?

personally, i love the low peak season. i am going in May and sure hope thats low peak.

Like others have said, there will be a higher girls to guys ration. there will still be plenty of hot girls to choose from. not to be cheap, but the dudes will have probably more leverage in negotiation. Also, u dont have to squeeze with everybody else during 2 in the morning.

that said, some like the high peak season as they like the party atmosphere and be among people. and for those who wants to escape the cold winter.

for me in low peak season, i can enjoy the cheaper rates (girls, hotels, shopping, air tickets etc) which is pretty swell.

you really cant compare Samui to either Phuket or Pattaya...its quiet and laid back....please dont ask the differance between Phuket and Pattaya...we will still be argueing about it and you trip would have come and gone

I've found the weather completely unpredicatable everytime ive went. The 1st time was in May and it was completely clear blue skies for the first week with the odd shower. The 2nd week wasnt as good but there no rain. The 2nd time was for New Year. It was overcast basically everyday for the 10 days i was there. We came back whiter than we went. I was there at the start of December and it rained quite alot with a couple of nights a complete wash out. Still, you'll have fun either way. It doesn't rain in the bars as they say!

Yes pretty much so, but if you have not been this time of year, then definitely come the few days of the water festival is great the first few times.

Funny enough about weather...I lived in Hawaii for about 6 years and watched 6 different years of weather...When you go for a week or two for holiday( granted you euros get plenty more holiday time than us yanks per year ) it differs year to year, season by season...People often asked me when the best time to visit was. I told them the rainey season was Nov. to Feb....When they came and it rained in June they said why is it raining today? I dunno...I'm not the effin weatherman!

Was in Patong late August / early September last year. It rained almost every day but not for long and sometimes while I was with ST and didnt' even know until leaving hotel.

I stayed at the Yorkshire and its pool was closed due to flooding that had happened in the week(s) before. They chose to do repairs that were needed since they were forced to empty the pool anyways.

Weather is a bit of a crap shoot but my experience was that it didn't really affect the night life.

Having now spent a cycle in Patong from October 2010 until now, the weather will be whatever it is - doesn't seem to really follow a predictable rainy / dry season schedule as stated in the tourist guides. Low season is IMHO, much preferred to high season. Best example would be the difference between going to Hollywood / Tiger or Tai Pan in January with lots of drunken tourists vying for TG's vs. July where there is an over abundance of TG's vying for farangs. Since I'm basically very lazy, the low season scenario is much less hectic and immensely more satisfying. FYI, prices really don't change from high to low season, so the traditional economic rules of supply and demand are not in effect - exceptions to the rule applying from time to time.
Have fun and bring a small portable umbrella.
