There is no such thing as a plain clothes Municpal officer....but other agencies like the state cops can work undercover....but I don't think they are looking for tourists...but real criminals...that is why they are undercover.

There's a thread on another board about this guy. He's been running this scam for a couple of years. (Carry a Telcel; dial 078 or 066 when he pulls this and watch him run.)

I was extorted for close to $100 by a plainclothed detective last Thursday (corner of Constitution and Art123), was shown a badge and gun and in full view of a nearby uniformed cop who was aware of what transpired, recognized the PC by nodding..
So my question is - is there such a thing in TJ or did I get scamed? Have seen this guy who is perfectly bilingual in the zone occasionally and he carries himself like he owns the place like a Chicago Detective from the old days, very smooth..
I have personally seen quite a few PC officers in Tecate no visible sign of officialdom, driving older cars, until they are onto someone and even then it is only a siren..

One thing that struck me as odd is this detective wanderng around with his little pee shooter and no protection or visible backup.. Surely HE would be a target to scumbags and they seem to know everything..
