Police reported that a Daytona Beach man hired a woman from an Internet service for a massage early Thursday, but she took his money and fled without providing the service. So the man went to her residence, beat her up and took money, police said.
Osbert Aidoo, 26, was arrested and charged with home invasion robbery and two counts of burglary with assault. He was being held Sunday on $75,500 bail, records show.
According to Daytona Beach Shores police, they were called to the Shore Winds Motel at 2240 S. Atlantic Ave. at 2:35 a.m. by Caitlin Petriello, 26, and her friend Ashley Harshman, 32. The women reported that Aidoo entered their room, took their rent money and punched Harshman. Aidoo also bear-hugged Harshman and slammed her to the ground when she tried to help Petriello, who was punched in the chest, police said.
Aidoo then fled the scene but was stopped by Port Orange police as he sped west across the Dunlawton Bridge.
Police then learned Aidoo had first contacted a female named Avery on Backpage.com for a massage. Avery turned out to be Petriello. Aidoo's cellphone had several messages between him and the telephone number Petriello listed as hers in a police report, investigators said.
Using Backpage.com, Petriello agreed to have Aidoo send a Lyft/Uber car to pick her up and bring her to his home. Petriello arrived at Aidoo's home around 1:30 a.m. and Avery handed her five $20 bills for a massage. Petriello told Aidoo she was going to get something in the car and fled, police said.
The car service refused to bring back Petriello to Aidoo's home, but since Petriello had given Aidoo her address on Backpage.com, he went to the motel and waited in the parking lot until Petriello and Harshman returned. He then knocked on the women's door, entered and grabbed $80 off the counter believing it was money he had given Petriello, police said.
