Anyone with any stories about polio clients (especially those with post-polio syndrome) and their experience with massage helping the condition, please post here.We are beginning a study of this at our office, and I would like to get as much info as possible.Links to websites you may know of that have to do with polio and massage plus outcomes, would be helpful too.Thanks in advance!

I've had 2 clients with post polio syndrome (neither was a regular ongoing client however) in my 8 years of doing massage.  I know both claimed that it was helpful.

One of my clients had polio as a child.  She comes to me once or twice a month.  She swears by massage therapy.    I'll try to get more details from her when I see her again.

Well I met with my client this evening here's what she says......She had polio when she was 5 and was in the hospital for only 9 months.  She wasn't as bad as some of the others.  She had to wear braces on her legs for a couple of years (I think she said years) and her left leg is the one that is most affected.  It is much smaller than the right and she says it feels weaker.  She mostly has problems with her low back, hips and left leg.  She says that massage helps her gait.  For about three weeks after a massage she feels she walks better.  She notices tension most often in her hips if she goes too long without a massage.She comes to me for an hour full body and we always spend more time on her hips/gluts and legs.TG hope that helps.
