Portable or stationary table?

Seems most of us use portable tables we bought during or right after completing school.  How many have switched to a stationary or electric table?  Which do you prefer and why?Has anyone had a custom table built by a local carpenter instead of from the usual manufacturers?  I would think you could have one built cheaper right to your specs.

I have portable tables... two Earthlites and a Stronglite.  The Stronglite was my table I purchased in school.  One Earthlite is an outcall table with a fixed height... the other is a Spirit that I practically stole for $200, and is now my main working table.I want an Earthlite Sedona stationary table with the storage cabinets underneath... I like things to be uncluttered.  That may be a ways off into the future, though!  After shipping, the table is right at about $1000.  I also thought of building my own for a fraction of the price (I do woodworking, also), but I fear I may not make it strong enough to hold very heavy clients (and I do have some very overweight clients).  I also don't think I would bother making it adjustable if I built it myself.However, I have thought about it on and off.  It would be a fun project for me.  I have the vinyl fabric already in a pretty color;  I bought it when I had my off-brand Ebay massage table that had a ripped cover... I wound up selling it, instead.  It was also a good table. If I ever do it, I will take pictures!

Make the table yourself.  I think it would add that much more to it and your work.  I would think a 3/4" birch plywood and the proper supports would make it strong enough to hold you and your heaviest client.  Add the undercabinet how you want it built and you should be set.  Probably cost less than $200 when all done.  Someday I will build my own but probably have to have the top professionally done.  Hate doing that type of work but love working with wood.

That site mentions a 12 pound (!) table made of graphite fiber. Has anyone seen such a thing? Have a link?

Making the top is the easiest part!  I wish the rest were so easy!It is just very simple upholstery... look at the bottom of your portable table... there's nothing to it.  I bet you'd be surprised...

I have been interested in the following 2 tables for quite some time. (I am particularily interested in if the handle interferes any with the massage or does it truly hide itself.)``````````````````````Answer to your question:I keep 2 stonglites (the ones made for deep tissue work) set up permanently in each massage room.  I have a stronglite portable lightweight for out calls and also have an Earthlighe for outcalls.  I don't dislike the Earthlight, but I know I really like my Stronglite's.  The main reason I keep the portables is because I have never had any malfunctions with them and they are easy to move if I want to.
