PORTLAND, Ore. —
A 32-year-old man who has worked as a massage therapist in Portland for years has been arrested for sexually abusing a client.
A woman claimed Benjamin Thomas Collura, who gave her a massage at River's Edge Hotel & Spa in SW Portland last month, sexually abused her.
"Everything [in the massage] is absolutely routine and then all of a sudden... it's not," the victim's attorney Greg Kafoury said.
Collura was arrested on sex abuse charges Wednesday, and according to court documents, admitted he inappropriately touched the client. He bailed out of jail Thursday, and has been ordered not to conduct massages while his case is ongoing.
"These guys just keep on going until somebody stops them. And here, he ran into the wrong lady and she stopped him," Kafoury said.
Collura worked as a massage therapist at Massage Envy between 2010 and 2013, at the John's Landing and Lloyd District locations. Police believe there may be more victims.
"The suspect has worked as a massage therapist for a number of businesses in the Portland area for about six years," said Sergeant Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau. "Based on that investigation, they believe there may be other victims that maybe haven't come forward or never called police about what happened."
Representatives with River's Edge Hotel & Spa released the following statement to KATU News:
The person in question was put on suspension immediately when this incident came to light. Now that the investigation has been completed by the Portland Police Department, he has been terminated. This is an extremely unfortunate situation and we are relieved to know that the individual is in custody. The safety and comfort of our guests is of paramount importance to us and we will continue to aid the police in any way we can.
