My advice dont quit your day job while your building up your clientel. Jason
see now my advice would be to quit your day job to begin building your clientel. especially if you have some money saved up. remember, lots of other things will determine how much money you make. how much are you charging an hour? how much are your expenses? are you giving discounts? etc...
a really great promotion i heard being used is that if a client sends in a referral, they get to add their name into a raffle. every month you have a prize (a fantastic one!) and those who gave referrals have a chance to win. a couple things need to happen to make that successful. 1. you need to let people know about it. 2. you need to ask them to give you referrals. 3. you need to display this "prize" in a prominant area so as to intrigue your clients to get involved. 4. your clients referrals actually need to come in. some of the monthly giveaways were a night's stay at a fun hotel (water slides etc...). gas card worth $100 or more. huge basket filled with goodies. so what you'll end up doing is spending a larger amount on a "prize" but you'll be saving $ in discounts to clients. i really like the idea.
anway, yes you can make money as an mt but you've got to be good, you've got to have people skills, you've got to be willing to work hard to build the clientele and you need not be afraid to spend some money to make it. (ie. really make your space a special retreat for clients. spend a little extra making your table & your space unique. clients appreciate that and it will bring them back!)
