Hi Seeker,
Reflexology helps during pregancy by relaxing mother AND the baby. It may help reduce the chances of pre eclampsia. The uterus reflex and other critical reflexes are treated but only very, very lightly.
It helps pregnant ladies with labour because you *do* work on the uterus reflex to initiate labour (when it is due) and throughout the labour itself right through to the delivery of the placenta.
I haven't given Reflexology through labour but my wife has - to a very dear friend who had a home birth. Just our friend, my wife, two midwives ('cos it was at their shift change over and neither wanted to miss the birth) and a trainee midwife and, eventually little baby Lydia!!!
All had a wonderful experience.
If you are interested in finding out more about this, why not enrol on a pregnancy and labour add-on to your reflexology (assuming you are a Reflexologist)? The IFR do courses as do other organisations.
