Previous fractured skull

Is it safe to do IHM on someone who has had a fractured skull? It is now several years since clients accident but I am wary of giving a treatmentClients only lasting side effect to her accidentis lost sense of smell, previous headaches have now cleared up. Any advice?

Hi Solas,

Personally I would not feel comfortable doing the IHM without seking medical first. You should ask the client to get a Doctorsnote before you perfrom the treatment, this way it will put your mind at ease that you will not be doing any harm.

Some of the moves I use as part or my massage may apply a little too much pressure for someone with an previous injury to their skull. Therefore maybe you could just adapt your treatment slightly for the client.

Any 'recent' head injury is a contraindication for IHM. however, if it was several years ago, it should be Ok.

I agree with Jasper that I would not personally be happy carrying out treatment without GP's letter of consent.

Hi there

I did an IHM on a friend who a few years ago had brain surgery............I was so gentle that it was as if she were washing her own hair - so I was not vigorous at all......some people like stimulation and some people like relaxation.........I was a little concerned at first but she was totally happy - I just avoided her ear as she had a problem since the surgery with her ear. If in doubt, don't treat.......and or get doc's note.
