Professional Massage?

I have a strain in my right shoulder and instead of going to physical therapy, which even with health insurance can get very expensive, so I was going to get a professional massage first to see if I can skip the therapy. I have never had a professional massage before and I was wondering if I should tip the masseuse (and if so how much should I give) and if I would feel a bit sore afterward? I am excited and hopeful that this will ease the soreness in my shoulder!!!!!
